Amoxil is a semisynthetic antibiotic-aminopenicillin with a wide range of action. This inhibits the production of bacterial cell wall elements.
The scope of the drug is wide because it exhibits a high bactericidal ability to affect both gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic flora. Therefore, this drug can be taken as monotherapy even in cases where therapy with a combination of two or more antibiotics would be needed. Due to this, the doctor, on the one hand, has the ability to influence the frequency of adverse reactions, and on the other, does not give microorganisms a chance to develop resistant strains. In addition, the drug allows the doctor to realize one of the main tasks of antibiotic therapy - to destroy the bacteria in the source of infection, that is, to achieve their complete eradication: only this guarantees the absence of recurrence or chronic disease.
Thus, Amoxil is appointed:
with respiratory infections;
with infections of the genitourinary system;
with infections of the digestive tract;
with infections of the skin, soft tissues.
It is forbidden to start treatment with Amoxil:
with allergies to medication components, allergic reactions to cephalosporins, penicillins, or other beta-lactams in the past;
with cholestatic (caused by a violation of the outflow of bile) jaundice;
in cases of liver malfunction caused by taking amoxicillin in the past;
with infectious mononucleosis;
with lymphocytic leukemia.
This medicine is used with caution in case of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, pseudomembranous colitis in the past, liver failure, intake of anticoagulants, severe renal impairment.
At the same time, along with a wide spectrum of action and high efficiency, which (as shown by the long experience of using the amoxicillin + clavulanic acid complex) is maintained for a long time, Amoxil also has a favorable safety profile as well as good tolerance. The latter circumstance allows the use of the drug in children; patients with comorbidities; elderly patients who, as a rule, have age-related disorders of the liver and kidneys.
