Carisoprodol (Generic) belongs to the group of muscle relaxants. The mechanism of its action is due to the blocking of the nerve impulse (or pain), which is sent to the brain from the peripheral nervous system.
Carisoprodol medication is used in combination with other drugs to treat the loss of flexibility of the pepper-striped muscles, and in order to eliminate the pain that occurs.
Carisoprodol is contraindicated for patients with:
acute intermittent porphyria.
kidney and liver disease. If you need to use Carisoprodol, it is recommended to consult a specialist, in this case, the doctor may prescribe a drug in a reduced dose and under supervision throughout the course of therapy.
pregnancy and lactation. If there is an urgent need, you should consult a doctor, because the effect of the drug on the fetus has not been proven to be released into breast milk.
Carisoprodol must be taken in strict accordance with the prescription of the attending physician and with the attached instructions. Carisoprodol poisoning is not often recorded, which is partly due to its low effectiveness as a muscle relaxant. However, overdose is fraught with death and symptomatic is similar to meprobamate intoxication. Symptomatic patients with overdose must be hospitalized in the intensive care unit.
The basis of the treatment of carisoprodol overdose is supportive therapy. Intravenous infusion of fluid to maintain normal diuresis is necessary for at least 24 hours until clarity of consciousness is restored, the patient will not be able to drink independently and most of the medication and its metabolites will not be removed from the body.
Taking into account that this drug may cause drowsiness, headache or dizziness, it should not be used while driving a car or working with moving machinery in production.
